One of my favorite bikes February 28, 2011

After Monty took a little dive out of the pannier bag the other day I decided I should get a big cargo basket for the front of my cruiser for dog carrying. Don’t worry! Thankfully we were going slow and on a trail so he’s fine but it scared me. He’ll fit much better inside a big front mount basket and I’ll be able to keep an eye on him.

The North American Handbuilt Bike Show February 25, 2011

Fairdale took a trip to the North American Handmade Bicycle Show to do a little scouting for Fairdale. Now that we are a bicycle producer one of the many things we have to think about and consider is what is an ideal way to display a Fairdale Bike. We went to the show with little interest in the bikes themselves (since you know, we got our own bikes!) and on a search for who we would award the much coveted Fairdale NAHBS Stand award. An award for the best stand at the show.

Here are some photos of some of the competition and some of the standouts.

Contest coming to Austin! February 21, 2011

I’m going to help organize a BMX jam here in Austin.

Mark your calendar! We will post way more details over on OdysseyBMX.com as we work them out, but expect dirt, street obstacles, and way more. Should be loads of fun for everyone! Or at least, thats the point.

Consumer Product Safety Commission February 15, 2011

I think I will send the goverment an updated bicycle drawing. This guy is looking a little outdated (and appears to be outfitted with the latest Oval-Tech gearing from 1988). Maybe a sweet time trail bike would be cooler.

Today I am having a fun time dealing with some rather dry legal schmeagle bicycle crap.

All bicycles sold in the USA must adhere to the CPSC rules. This is why when you by a complete bike it must have a chain guard and reflectors. In all honesty I am very glad there is some sort of safety regulations for this kind of thing, but I’m finding some of the specifications to be quite comical.

Keeping it real February 9, 2011

I bet there is nothing more annoying then listening to a guy from Austin, TX complain about the cold. Sure, its actually cold here, but it’ll probably be 80 by the end of the week. Meanwhile I hear it snowed another 6 feet back home in Michigan.

Fairdale Zines February 3, 2011

So I have started working on Fairdale zine #2. I have no idea when it will be done, but I’m starting!

There are still a very few zine #1’s available through the Odyssey webstore. Check them out here. And, to celebrate starting #2 here is a web version of #1. It kind of loses some of the magic not being in print, but you’ll get the idea. One note, there’s a section in the later half (the war with nature section) where when you are looking at the zine in print you can mix and match the pages and build your own man vs nature contest. I’m not smart enough to make it work on the web so it really won’t make sense. Just remember, if you had a print version the page would be cut where the dotted blue line is.

Buy a Fairdale zine or T-shirt here.
