In the fall of 2016 Fairdale had an opportunity to make road frames using custom drawn 3/2.5 titanium tube sets. Our initial thought was that it seemed like a fun R&D project to tackle, but that in the long run it probably wasn’t going to be very practical for Fairdale or our customers.
Titanium is a great material for high-performance bike frames, but the added cost is usually hard for us to justify over chromoly or aluminum when it comes time for production. However, since this would end up as very limited edition project, or maybe never even leave the prototype stages, we decide to go for it, knowing that it would still be an awesome learning experience.
We’re honored to work with our friends at Vans on these custom Fairdale Authentics. We’re so psyched, we even built up a matching Fairdale Taj just for them. These shoes will go out to key Fairdale shops, friends, and family as a thank you for their support. On top of that, we’re also giving a bunch of shoes away to lucky Instagram followers.
Amid our 2017 line-up is a special limited edition run of our Weekender Archer. We teamed up with our friends over at Biltwell to bring you guys just 100 of these classically styled two-wheeled vessels.
Watch the video above or click here to learn more about how the bike came to life, and then here for full specs.
At Fairdale, we strive to make simple and reliable bicycles to complement the styles of riding that we love to do. We make bikes because we want to be able to share the joy of a simple ride with you. You’ll find us doing everything from long road rides, to commuting, touring or just casually cruising around town. Our bikes have been designed from the ground up to make riding as hassle-free as possible, so you can easily grab on to that special feeling that only riding a bike can give.
For 2017 our line-up is even more polished than before, so whether you want to cruise on a Taj or Flyer, go shopping with your Daybird, do a quick commute with your Lookfar, go touring with your Weekender, or ride 100 miles of rolling hills with a Goodship, we have you covered. We know that you’re going to love this year’s bikes as much as we do. Enjoy!
Did you go on a bike ride, eat some pretzels, and found yourself thirsty? Well, don’t sweat. We have a couple new water bottles in stock.
There’s our 26oz Shark Bike and our 22oz Shark Walk. Each one utilizes The Purist technology which shields the bottle from taste, mold, and staining. Nothing sticks, your bottle stays clean, and your water tastes pure.
In addition to these new water bottles, there’s also our 16oz K.E.G. Storage. It fits in standard water bottle cages with a mouth large enough to stash emergency tools, patch kits, more pretzels, and whatever else you don’t want bunching up your pockets.
The 2016 Weekender Drop comes stock with a 11- 40t rear cassette. With 10 different gears ranging from a-bombing-down-a-hill-high-speed 11t to the granny-gear-hill-climbing 40t you can ride anything that comes your way. Older Weekenders have an 11-36t rear cassette. If you want a bigger range of gears you can follow the traditional path and add a front derailleur and another sprocket up front. Another option is to take advantage of all the 1x upgrades available in the mountain bike world. Leif Valin upgraded Sandy Carson’s Weekender with a OneUp 42t rear cassette kit and a Wolf Tooth narrow/wide front sprocket.
We just received some of our new MX bars. These low-rise chromoly BMX bars can give your bike a new look and feel. Here’s my bike and the switch from Archer bars to MX bars. They have a 4 inch rise and are 28 inches wide. They work especially well with our Weekender Archer, Coaster or Flyer. Pick some up through your favorite bike shop or they are on sale here for $24.99.
Assuming you read French you’ll probably enjoy reading this review of the Goodship from En Danseuse. Alternatively it’s always a good laugh to let Google translate it for you. Thanks so much for the support guys!
Diego is hitting the road on monday and driving up the west coast. He’ll be visiting bike shops, pedaling around and taking pictures. He’s also organized a “Meet & Greet” evening at Velocult in Portland. He’ll be hanging around talking bikes and stuff for the evening. Come out for some fun and say hello!
I should tell y’all sometime about the day I first set foot in Austin back in 1992. It was a life changer and a magical moment. I’ve been forever in love with riding bikes around that city because of it. I know not all cities are perfect for cycling, but pretty much year round Austin is better enjoyed by bicycle than any other means of transportation I can think of. Austin Bike Tours and Rental recently picked up a fleet of 30 Daybirds and put them to work. On a strictly personal level that is a such an awesome achievement for me! Fairdale exists because I fell in love with riding bikes around Austin… to see our bikes being lent out of strangers to experience some of what I love is the coolest thing I can imagine. View More
The 2016 Fairdale line will arrive to bike shops in November. You can check out all the bikes now in the above digital version of our print catalog or see more detailed info on our “bikes” link. If you need info on 2015 models or older you can also find our bike archives there.
I built up a Weekender frame and fork set with some fancy parts. It’s a special treat to myself since I’m usually a riding a bike with an assortment of miss-mathced sample parts. I started with our Weekender frameset in Electro Silver (available now). View More
Our 2016 bikes won’t be available to you until Novemeber, but BMX Cruisers posted up some info on a couple of our 2016 models for you to preview. Check out the 2016 Taj bike, and our new model, the Weekender MX. We’ll have some more official news on these and all the new models coming soon. Read on to see more HERE.
John Watson shot this photo and some other great ones of our Goodship for Andre Chelliah’s review on The Radavist.
Check out the review that contains excellent consumer advice like this, “What would I change on the bike? Not a lot. At $2999.99, The Goodship might be the best complete steel road race bike available right now. I definitely feel that for the price point, you are getting the most bang for your buck.”
Bicycle Sports Shop wrote up a review talking about our latest creation, The Badship. This one of a kind specially painted Goodship frame and fork also got a special part build (and so we named it the Badship). They had the pleasure of sailing around on this black beauty for about a week, and you can read about their experience by clicking HERE. It’s also full of great insight into our Goodship frame and fork too:
“…But the bike is also point and shoot. Aim the Goodship at a turn and counter steer a bit and the bike holds a line like it’s nobody’s business. At speed or cruising town, the Goodship capably does what’s asked of it when it comes to handling. And that holds true out at the Driveway Series as well. Hanson at the Lamar store has a Goodship that stepped on the podium a few weeks back. Not for nothing but he rolled away from a bevy of guys on the latest aero everything and just missed the win taking second. All aboard a Goodship.”
Check out the full review and keep in mind the Badship will be auctioned off for a charity Aug.1 so it could be yours!
And thanks to BSS, SRAM, and Zipp for making the Badship reality.
PS I just mistyped “Badship” as “BARship”. Could be a new bar cruising model!!
A new model for 2015, the Daybird is our take on a legendary classic. This simple and easy to use 3-speed is available as a step-through (shown) or a Standard model. We didn’t make this bike to win races or jump off roofs, we made this bike so you could enjoy bike riding!
We find it extremely flattering when folks who work at bike shops choose to ride our bikes. Ben here works at our top dealer Bicycle Sport Shop in Austin, Texas and is cruising our 2014 Parser. We can’t thank BSS enough for all that they’ve done for us through the years, nor can we properly thank our hometown of Austin for all the support the city has given us. But we’ll give it a try… thanks to Ben, Bicycle Sport Shop, and all the other great dealers in Austin who have helped us so much! Cheers y’all!
