Research and Design From Years Ago

Back in the simpler times of 2014 (when Mongoose only made rollerblades), we had the idea to make some bikes out of wood. Fender even sent us a bass guitar to make a bike out of, and it even worked (for a few minutes). Leif showed up in his jumpsuit and aero helmet, and Monty jumped into his trailer. With a laugh, we made a video bravely test riding our weird bikes. The video went viral and ended up on every cycling news site It was great fun for us to see that other folks shared our sense of humor, but then the video vanished a few days later. We’d had some settings wrong on our Vimeo account, and it deleted our video.

Some years later we dove into another R&D video. SRAM had announced that the front derailleur was dead (actually, we’d killed it off on most of our bikes years before by building our Weekenders with a 1x drivetrain for simplicity). We wondered what would happen to all those unused front derailleurs?

More absurd ideas turned into realities for a laugh in this video. The walking skateboard took me soooo long to build. And, the bottle opener really worked so that one was pretty cool. -Taj
