Another interesting application for our single speed Parser frame. This time from Canada.

The Shiner G.A.S.P. Ride is an annual 100 mile long ride from Austin to Shiner, Tx. It’s a fun ride that raises thousands for the United Way and it ends at the Shiner Brewery for a big party. Sandy Carson went out on the ride this year and sent back this report…

I guess this is my 4th Shiner ride. It’s a 100 mile ride from Austin through some scenic Texas countryside and small towns. It ends up in Shiner, TX at the Brewery with free beer and food.   There were 1.600 folks on it this year, including tandems and recumbents!

My neighbor and legend Dr.J who got me real into distance riding. He holds the epic Wednesday night ride every week,  and has legs of steel. I think he’s about 4 CPH (Cookies Per Hour) right here.

A well deserved beer after a hot ride. We did a beer tour of the shiner factory after the finish line, but my iphone and dig cam had both died by then.

This is kind of wrong but kind of amazing. Our Fairdale Parser bikes were made to be an all around single speed bike complete with rack and fender mounts and freewheel. Leave it to Hernan to do something weird with it like race around an oval track as as fixed gear. He’s already raced it as a single speed cross bike and a pizza delivery vehicle. Not everyone knows this but not only am I BMX track certified I am also Velodrome track certified. Still, to be honest I don’t know a lot about track racing… I think these guys are all learning too and thats why they are all holding on to the railing.

This looks like Hern is in 2nd but you can trust me when I tell your that his Fairdale is actually helping him get ready for a big sling shot around the guy in front of him.

Sandy Carson has organized a near 1000 mile bike ride from Seattle to San Francisco to raise money for the Humane Society.

Erik’s one of those guys who sums up Austin for me. A real and true genius of a musician who keeps life simple and laid back… someone you’re stoked to know lives in your town. Sandy Carson happened upon him early today and sent me this picture.

Erik plays drums for a few different bands but is probably most well known for his spot in Tia Carrera. Watching Tia is always an amazing experience because the shows are only loosely based on any kind of “song”. They tend to ebb and flow into all kinds of new and different sounds… but always end up rocking and in a very real way. Like, it’s one thing to play a planned out heavy song that you know every riff of… it’s another to just find it out of thin air on the spot.

Well, anyway, before I get too ethereal about Erik’s music let me just say that it’s a real treat to know that Erik is out cruising the streets on a Fairdale!

This road is featured in the movie 'No country For Old Men', but where does it end?

Just been out to the West Texas desert last week, for a couple of photo assignments in Marfa and Marathon.  Of course, having time to kill, I had to take the road bike and take advantage of the epic rides and cinematic scenery there. Nothing like being eaten up by an endless expanse of Chihuahuan Desert to clear the head.

No country for spandex?

No clouds for old white men? This is the route of the Marfa 100k annual road race. Its a sweet route. 35 miles each way. Remember factor 50 sunscreen!

This is downtown Marfa. What's Marfa? It's basically a little art town between the Davis mountains and Big Bend. Population 2000. Many movies have been made here and it's about as minimal as it gets.

Food trailers are all the rage these days and Food Shark kills it here. My fave is the 'Marfalafel'.

One of my assignments was to shoot At The Drive-In's reunion tour show in Marfa. It was pretty incredible. Better than Austin's show I reckon. The Mexican jumping beans sure put on a good show. It was super packed and kids came from all over Texas, even following the whole tour!

Right after ATDI a local Metal band LBS (Pounds) slayed a local cowboy bar. It was a bizarre melting pot of punks, metalheads, art weirdos and local grandmas all moshing it up.

This is part of the McDonald's Observatory route. I started at the State Park. It a pretty grueling ascent but worth it on the top.

I hear they have big telescopes here. It was closed for lunch. Just my luck. Ok, time for another banana.

For Fairdale Premier Dealers we I built this bike display. The little sign thing is easy to replace and it adjusts to fit all sizes of our bikes. Came out pretty neat I think.

Fairdale friend Ryan Worcester is helping some kids out with a skatepark. Looks like a really cool program. The kids get to learn how to run the park, maintain the park and of course have fun at the park. There’s a little video on the kickstarter page that’s worth a watch here.

Sandy Carson launched an entirely rebuilt website. It’s pretty amazing with in depth looks at some of his projects. I especially like (and am disturbed by) the “Just Do It” project feed that the photo above is from. Check out Sandy’s work here.

Adam Butler is hosting an individual time-trial race up Austin’s Mt. Bonnell this Sunday.

All proceeds from the race will be going to the American Red Cross.

Get out there and pedal your butt up a hill, or cheer on the riders. If you’re lucky you might walk away with a brand new Fairdale frame and fork set!

I arrived in Taiwan after what had to have been a 47 hour flight. I simply do not fit in airplane seats and it made the flight seem longer then ever. Hurry up and buy a bunch of Fairdales so I can buy a sailboat for next time I travel. Once I finally hit the hotel I rewarded myself with a Taiwan Beer.

People wonder what it’s like in Taiwan and all I can say is that it’s pretty much like here except that 7-11′s don’t have Slurpee machines but do have boiling cauldrons of eggs in them…

… and some random street art that might not fly here in the states.

At the bike show I saw the new Fit bike model. It’s a pretty big departure from what we’re used to seeing from fit but I guess change is cool.

I picked up about 100 catalogs. I was especially on the hunt for tires for a new Fairdale model I’m working on. Oddly enough the Innova (IRC) catalog had me in it!

This isn’t the exact photo obviously but more or less the same thing… I think the one they used in the catalog was from the Worlds in 2000. If they have a tire I want to use I’ll expect a discount., ha ha!

This is an interesting item I found at the show. A magazine holder so you can read while riding.

Here’s some tires I turned down for Fairdales, but they might be on Darryl Nau’s bike soon!

I’m not one of those retro BMX guys but these throwback Kuwaharas were pretty sweet!

Linsanity is so huge in Taiwan. Someone even managed to make Linsanity grips in time for the show.

Choking the chicken?! Lunch at the show was questionable.

You wouldn’t expect to find a lot of Man Gel at a bike show, but here it is.

And why not a little something for the ladies.

Hell, while were at it why not get yourself some dragon and zoo animal gel too!

Zeronine has changed directions a bit since making BMX racing leathers in the 80′s.

I thought the wooden pedals were pretty classy. The weird metal one looked like it might be made from that little box from the Hellraiser movies.

And then holding up the banner up top our are lost buds Empire’s Bonnie and my old pup Roscoe. I’m pretty sure they are both happy to be looking over everyone.

Are any of you out there into monster trucks? I need some help deciphering what I’m hearing on the radio adverts.

This is what I think I’m hearing…. in your best monster truck sunday, sunday, sunday voice, “SUPER MODIFIED TWO-WHEEL DRIVE WHEEL STANDING TRUCKS!!!”

What the hell is that? All I can only assume that they now have monster truck segways?? Can someone confirm if that is true?
